Medically they are considered harmless. They will however eat adhesives and glue. They can damage book bindings and other items that have glues present. They are considered a nuisance pest. These pests prefers damp environments and they are often found in bathrooms, basements and if conditions are right, attics. They will enter homes from pipe chases, high hat lights and plumbing vent lines. They are usually most prevalent in spring and fall as they “migrate” to new areas in an attempt to find warmth.

What can I do to get rid of silverfish?

Silverfish can be reduced by installing dehumidifiers, correcting moisture concerns and sealing gaps where plumbing lines emerge from walls. Treating this pest with over the counter products is often difficult due to the lack of residual action in most consumer pesticides.
