Pest Calendar

Homeowners should expect pests throughout the year. But which pests surface during the different seasons? Order our free pest calendar to learn more!

Spring

Pest CalendarSpring starts our calendar because this is when bugs surface throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Pests love the spring as much as you do! Many insect species hibernate during the colder weather and emerge during the spring.

They love the warm weather, the rain, and the freshly bloomed flowers. Spring brings abundant food sources. For many insect species, spring is also their mating season, explain the pest control experts at Viking.

Expect to see termites, ants, flies, mosquitoes, spiders, earwigs, and other stinging insects.

Knowing a little bit about these pests will make identification easy. For example, mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water. Termites will begin swarming around your home, especially near windows. Stinging insects, such as bees, will migrate to flowers.

Since spring is such a popular season for bugs, many homeowners schedule their yearly pest control inspection during this time.

Summer

Summer is another season where you will see different insects. The summer months are warm, and insects will flourish.

Many insects also have a prime food source: humans! Since humans are active during the summer, bugs will migrate toward humans to feed on our blood. This includes bed bugs; since we travel in the summer, this season is prime bed bug season, explain the pest management professionals at Viking. You will also see pest birds and wildlife during this season.

Expect to see fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, bats, ants, stinging insects, termites, bed bugs, and flies.

If you did not get your yearly pest control inspection during the spring, you can also get your inspection done during the summer. If your home passed the spring inspection, pest control experts at Viking recommend maintaining your home by keeping your yard free of debris and trimming your greenery.

Fall

Fall is the start of the cooler weather. But this does not mean the pests go away. Instead, homeowners will see a new batch of pests. Bugs and animals look for shelter during the colder months — and they will find shelter in your home!

Expect to see rats/mice, stink bugs, spiders, and fleas.

How do you prevent pests from entering your home? Do not make your home an attractive place to hide. Our pest control experts recommend cleaning up firewood and leaf stacks. If you hang up fall decorations, only hang them inside.

Winter

Unfortunately, you are not free from pests during the coldest time of the year. Like in the fall, pests will seek shelter during the winter. The northeast also gets a lot of snow, attracting bugs that love damp places, explain the exterminators at Viking Pest.

Expect to find cockroaches, rodents, stink bugs, ladybugs, and silverfish.

Like fall, make sure your home is not a haven for these pests. Keep all holiday decorations inside. If you hang up lights, inspect them before bringing them inside. Pest control experts at Viking also recommend sealing any potential openings into your home.
